I also thought this Waltz was not a Waltz. It distracted me from the movie when I first saw it and every time since then. It should be in 3/4 time, not 4/4 time. But perhaps they were making it in 8/12 time? The dance looked good and the movie is great but that one scene always makes me think too much about what was said: "The King and Queen WALTZ".

This really is the perfect camp. I don't know that I've been anywhere the energy was so high, the setting so beautiful, dance camp or otherwise. I couldn't sleep for days wanting to keep taking it all in.

It was all absolutely perfect! Some of the most fun dancing I have done in all my years on the dance floor! Can't wait until next year!

I'm registered for next year with a down payment on a cabin, had to stay in town this year. I too loved the location and the general setup. The food was up to Annie's standard last year at Northwest Passage that I was lucky enough to go to. I'd highly recommend the camp, but, if I do that, the dance floor will be even more crowded. What can I say ?

It was a fabulous weekend. The location, the snow, the dancing, the people, the caller & bands and the food were all wonderful. Like the Durango folks, when we saw the snow coming down on Sunday morning, we said, maybe we should leave early. But we also stayed until the end. We enjoyed it so much that we have already pre-registered and made a deposit for next year.

Har & blech play "French Waltz," which is not a waltz. And "Chorus Jig" is a reel, not a jig. so....... all waltzes aren't waltzed.

Clint Walker of the Valley Contra Dance Society in Bethlehem, PA (clintonbwalker@verizon.net), reports that their group provides dinner for the band and caller at each of their twice monthly dances. They dance in a church on the gym floor, which is right next to the church kitchen. A volunteer either buys or prepares a dinner for the band and sets it up in the kitchen. Ahead of time the volunteer is provided with information on the caller's and band members' dietary quirks. If the volunteer wishes, (s)he gives the treasurer receipts for the dinner costs and is reimbursed. This volunteer duty rotates randomly among willing members. Band members say that having dinner waiting for them when they arrive is both welcoming and a big help. At intermission the groups serve punch (prepared by a volunteer) and pot luck refreshments. Dancers are generous and creative in contributing snacks, desserts, ... That's when the band gets dessert. Their group also provides home lodging and breakfast for out-of-town callers and band members who want it. Several members live close to the dance site, so this doesn't require much coordination or transportation. Getting to hang out a bit with the bands and callers and hear their news from the larger dance world is a perk for everyone.

Sally Jenkins of Bartlesville, OK wrote, "I organize and call for a very small community dance in Bartlesville, OK. Our dance accepts donations and splits the take between the band and the church building. I just learned that with their first "earnings" the band members all bought copies of one of the Waltz Books, so at our next dance I will make sure they get to play something from their new books for the dancers, whose donations paid for said books! By announcing where the music came from, the connection between the dancers and the musicians should be strengthened. Thank you for your other suggestions in that article too."

We're sorry that we were late in arriving but other Xmas obligations got in the way. At least Bob and I made it in time for the last 3 dances and the waltz and a bit of leftover food goodies. Thanks for the creative badges.

Someone at the dance took my jacket (a black hooded polarfleece) and left theirs (a black polarfleece without a hood but with cloth on shoulders and sleeves). Please call me-281-1198-if it was you and let's exchange jackets!
